Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
