The Tottenham defender scored twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the scores a short while after the defender's first goal, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of chances, while Vicario made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, advising the match official to check the goal on the screen and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's team up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven fulfils role at each end of the field

After a uninspiring weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a mere two shots on goal, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to head home.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his second in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally outstanding in defensive duties, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing striker's instinct

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the exits after Sarr's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two established strikers - had netted only one league goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having space and opportunity to readjust for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, as well, was unable to make an impact after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a lack of chance. The majority of Everton's offensive moves came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs penalty area.
