Government Official Confirms MoD Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, with Staff Advised to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

A defense official has revealed that the MoD is currently investigating the possible security risks posed by Chinese-made cars, and staff have been advised to avoid talking about secret information in any vehicles.

Safety Advice for MoD Staff

During a recent interview on a radio station, a defence minister addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He stated that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that safety is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a tiny fraction.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, not to have conversations at a classified level in any kind of car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that exist in all vehicle, to only have those confidential talks in protected areas. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone concerned about safety.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese buses, which could allow China to switch off public transport and bring chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia spy ship has been shining lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

The broader security environment highlights the importance of robust protocols and caution in all aspects of government activities, from vehicle use to discussions practices.
